Thank you for your interest in Pathway at UCLA Extension. Pathway is a college program for young adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. The program combines academic classes with social, recreational, and vocational opportunities on the beautiful UCLA campus.
Our goal is to help our students become self-advocates and make choices about their own futures. We provide the academic, life and job skills training necessary for Pathway students to lead independent, happy, and fulfilling lives.
- Be at least 18 to 25 years old when starting Pathway
- Have completed high school with a diploma, certificate of completion, or equivalent
- Be able to safely get around campus independently after initial orientation
- Be able to actively participate in completing the Pathway application and interview process
- Have basic safety skills in unsupervised settings
- Have family support and a personal desire to be successful in all aspects of Pathway
- Meet eligibility criteria for Regional Center services or have the ability to purchase services privately
Other qualities include but are not limited to: strong social and adaptive skills, enthusiasm for learning and the college experience, and a desire to live independent from their family.
Applications are currently being accepted on a year-round basis; however, admissions interviews do not typically begin until February. Candidates will be contacted via phone to schedule an in-person interview once all application materials have been received and reviewed. Following the completion of the application process, candidates will be notified of our admissions decision as soon as possible, and always within 30 days of their interview.
Generally, students participating in the Pathway residential program will enter as a cohort each fall. The incoming cohort will be filled as students accept the offer of admission and pay the required deposit. Once the cohort is filled, admissions may be closed, and subsequent applicants may be placed on a waiting list for admission. Eligible applicants that cannot be accepted for space reasons may be placed on alternate status for fall admission contingent on other students accepting or declining our admission offers.
NEW! Our application process is going eco-friendly! Beginning with the 2017-18 academic year, paper applications will no longer be accepted, with the exception of a few required documents (indicated below).
